forgotten password now working?

Hi! Members of our forum are complaining. They said that when they try to verify their passwords by Clicking on the "Forgotten password" and supplying the Username and e-mail, they are not receiving the password on their e-mail.

I tested/tried this one to verify if they are correct and yes, the forgotten password is now working.

Please advise.

So is it working or not... you say it's "now working", I guess it's a typo-error.

Ann used to told me that it's not working... Don't just use them. [ http://support.forumgogo.com/thread-1653-2-2.html ]

So I came up with an Idea...

When people forgot their password on my forum, I allow them to start a new account and PM to me. So I can send their temporary password back to that account. After the problem is solved I just delete that account.

Now is the problem, some ppl are very cunning and may use this to steal other's account --

So the better way is that .... I make the ppl who wish to claim the password send me an e-mail from their e-mail they use for applying their account. Just to confirm that they are the owner of the account. No need even to create new account.

This may seems difficult.. But I guess it could help and won't create much problem as not much ppl will forget their password often.

About how to edit password for them --

if someone lose his Password, just go Admin CP. - Users - edit Users - input his username - earch - [detail] - password: input the new Passsword, clear his Security Question - submit.

This would be the best way I think.

Bt just one question, if they registered their account with an unuseful Email. then what should they do?

In case of "unuseful email" I think the Security Question may help. Encourage our members to use it, then whenever he/she lost pass, just create temp account and PM you with the security answer. That's ok and safe.

Totally agree with lifeforces....

In a case of 'unuseful mail' or 'fake mail', using security question should help solve the case.

But yes, normally most ppl don't set up a security question -- too bad

another solution: create a security question like this "Your Level 2 Password Is:" then the answer is a various password.
I see lot of people forget their SAnswer just because u think it's not important. By this way may help ur members think it's as important as their pass, some time more.

PS: If these solutions can't solve the problem, then ... tell that mem online for a "cam 2 cam" chat to verify ...

Your Idea's good...

In one way, it did make ppl pay more attention on this "Level 2 Password".

But in another way, if people forget password even when they have one, would you expect them to  even remember the second password too ?

Don't know if this will work, but I won't even think about verify by "cam 2 cam" for sure! lol

Anyway, Ann -- Did the Password Recovey only available for member?  I mean -- Mod and Admin can't use that!

"Password Recovey " ?

If means "Password Recovery", all Groups can be Recovery.

First change his PW, then let him login, change the PW by himself.
